The Process

Initial Conversation

This gives us the opportunity to discuss the general parameters of the work you would like to have done. It will also give you some ideas about possible ways to accomplish the task you have in mind. If you would like, you can email me any photos or pictures that identifies either exactly what you are looking for, or that are close to your idea. Pictures of the architectural space are also helpful.

The Consultation

This would be an in-person meeting with you at the site. At this juncture, more specific details regarding your vision of the project would be discussed to provide me with the clearest understanding of how you want the art work to be presented. I would be able to take pictures, size of the surface and then provide you with an estimate, both in terms of cost and time, for me to complete the work for you.

The Agreement

If after the consultation, you decide you would like to move forward with the project, I would provide you with a written Agreement. This Agreement would state the terms for completion of the work, including: (1) an estimate of the cost of the project; (2) an estimate of the time the project will take to completion; (3) the terms for each phase of the work to be done; and (4) payment for each phase of the job.

The Design and Sketches

Once you agree to the contract terms, an initial payment of ten percent (10%) of the total estimated cost of the project will be due, together with a fully executed written Contract. I will begin work on the design phase creating sketches for the project. I usually present 1-3 sketches, intended to allow you to see my vision of what your final project would look like.

Review of the Initial Sketches

Once the sketches have been completed, a second meeting will be scheduled to afford you an opportunity to review the initial work and either select one of the drawings to be used as a template for the work to be done, suggest changes that would better reflect your vision of the final project. In my experience, a combination of the elements and composition from the different sketches presented, that you find appealing. If changes are to be made, an additional rendering will be completed for review and final approval. Once a sketch has been approved, we can move to the final phase. Prior to completing the project, in accordance with the terms of the written Contract, a second payment for completion of the preliminary drawings will be due (forty {40%} percent of the Contract price). Once this payment has been received, a time will be scheduled to begin work on the final artwork on-site.

Completion of the Project

Depending on site availability, the approved drawing will be duplicated on the surface where the artwork is to be completed. A full sized rendering of the approved sketch will be competed at the site. Upon approval of the template for the finished project, the work will be done within the time frame agreed to by and between you and I, and as set out in the Contract. Upon completion of all work to be done, the final payment of the balance of the Contract amount will be due.

Changes to the Contract Terms

If there are unforeseeable circumstances that come up from the time the Contract is signed and the initial sketches are prepared until final completion of the project, adjustments may need to be made to either or both the cost of the project or the time frame within which the work is to be completed. For example, if more than three (3) sketches are needed to achieve the desired result, additional time and cost may become a factor. The initial process of competing an acceptable rendering is, of itself, very time consuming. The longer it takes to achieve an acceptable artist’s rendering of your vision of the project, the longer it will take to complete the project. Additionally, issues may later present itself that may limit or delay access to the work site which, in turn, may delay completion of the final project. These circumstances, or one’s similar to this may require adjustments to the Contract price and/or the agreed time for completion of the project. It will not be deemed a breach of the Contract if adjustments must be made to accommodate such unexpected circumstances.
